Voice of Democracy Winners Announced

North Carolina was well represented by Ms. Molly Price at the 2012 Voice of Democracy finals.  Competition was keen, but on Sunday, the Veterans of Foreign Wars named Elizabeth Scannell the first-place winner of VFW’s annual audio-essay competition. Elizabeth was sponsored by Post 10256 and Ladies Auxiliary in Goose Creek, S.C. She received an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., where she was presented with the T.C. Selman Memorial Scholarship award in the amount of $30,000.

Molly was awarded a national scholarship of $1,000, which is in addition to her local and North Carolina state scholarships winnings.

The Voice of Democracy program celebrated its 65th year with the theme, “Is There Pride in Serving in Our Military?” Nearly 50,000 students participated in this year’s competition.  Read more
