USS ARIZONA AND USS MISSOURI GUNS

Here is a most unusual memorial in honor of those who served in World War II. Two guns from two battleships. One battleship saw the combat at the beginning of the war in Hawaii and the other served in Tokyo Bay as the surrender site. The guns are now a memorial in Arizona. Here is their story.

It will soon be 70 years since thousands of 17, 18, 19, and 20 year-olds jumped out of planes, landed by gliders, stormed the beaches, climbed the cliffs, flew combat bombing missions, and bombarded the coasts of Normandy. Tractor Supply Company – A Saturday Salute

In honor of our nation’s heroes, the Veterans of Foreign Wars is partnering again this year with Tractor Supply Company (TSC). TSC is the largest farm and ranch store chain in the United States. VFW Posts and their Auxiliaries are encouraged to host events at TSC stores throughout the country on May 24, to honor our veterans, showcase VFW patriotism, and get the community involved! This year we are calling the event “A Saturday Salute”.

Tin Can Navy

This is a Veterans Day salute to the Tin Can Navy and all who served aboard destroyers and destroyer escorts. The film is on the USS HANK (DD-702) and has footage of her at-sea refueling off the USS TARAWA (CV-40). These were the ships of the Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer that served our nation well. Totay’s destroyers are faster and more formidable than ever!

Veterans’ Day Dental Care – Nov 11th

Beavers Dentistry, Cary, NC, announced today that they will provide free radiographs, cleanings, and fillings, if time permits. Their appointment schedule is blocked for the day with one hour appointments. Beavers Dentistry is doing this in honor of one of their employees who just lost her husband to cancer. He was a career Marine. Service is available to all current and former military with valid ID.

Moving Wall to Visit Kannapolis

Kannapolis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8989 has been granted the opportunity to host the Vietnam Veterans Memorial “The Moving Wall” in their city during May 8-12, 2014. The Moving Wall is a one half size replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC. and is on display at approximately 20 locations throughout the United States each year.
